nce in a Blue Moon, a common expression of saying not very often, but what exactly is a Blue Moon? According to this website- "it is the second Full Moon to occur in a single calendar month. The average interval between Full Moons is about 29.5 days, whilst the length of an average month is roughly 30.5 days. This makes it very unlikely that any given month will co
ntain two Full Moons, though it does sometimes happen. On average, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century, so you could say that once in a Blue Moon actually means once every two-and-a-half years." Okay, so why did I bore you with all those details... A few years ago my mom was watching the kids, it just happened to be on a night of a Blue Moon so they had a spontaneous party. Using what she had on hand they finger painted with cool whip on the kitchen table and did other silly things. My kids were in heaven and asked when they got to come over for another Blue Moon Party?? Her reply was on the next blue moon. My kid's did not forget her promise. Did you Know New Years Eve just happened to be a Blue Moon?? Being the amazing grandma that she is, made good on her promise and had the kids over. Giving Kent and I a nice night out just the two of us. Thanks mom!
Well once is a while the planets and stars truly do align and my kids get to hop from one party to the next... which just happened to be the case on New Years Eve. The festivities started in the morning at Grandma Hyers (aka Meme Trixi or Grandma Grandkid - ie Myrt). They had a Wii Day playing with their cousins. Late that afternoon the fun continued at Meme
Maries/Grandma Sandbox for their Blue Moon Party. Not wanting to miss out on ringing in the New Year with the kids, we picked them up from my parents around 8:30pm and headed home for a fun filled night of Monopoly. Sad but true up until this night we had never played "REAL" Monopoly with the kids. They have wanted to play for sometime, but it is
such a long game I always said "not today". Well New Years Eve was the perfect day we had nothing but time on our hands as we counted down the minutes to midnight. At the stroke of midnight we ran outside banging on pots and pans and exchanged greetings with the neighbors, came inside toasted with sparkling apple cider then went back to our game. We played until 2am and loved it. McKenna and McKay were hilarious. It was fun to see their little personalities McKay was our entrepreneur buying up real estate left and right, building houses and hotels. McKenna liked saving all her money. There are many life lessons to be learn in a game of Monopoly. The rules specifically state how to purchase property, invest with real estate, mortgages and even bankruptcy. Kent and I had a good laugh when I said "if the rules to Monopoly were to be rewritten today it would have a section titled Bail Out". Perhaps the government needs to spend a night playing "Real" Monopoly and realize there is no Bail out. The games over when the 1st person runs out of money. I LOVED playing with my big kids. I look forward to many more game nights as they get older. It was a fun evening. Keeping with tradition on New Years Day we
played a mean
game of "CandyLand" in pursuit of who would get the honors of taking off the 1st piece of candy from our Gingerbread house. Maggie is our undefeated champion, 3 years in a row. However she had more than luck on her side when she chose to have Baby Jesus be her game piece.

Once in a Blue Moon, thank goodness for holidays and days off work for Kent we check out of reality and just play play play!!! We had a won
derful New Years Day (weekend) filled with lots of game playing. Sending them back to school came with mixed emotions, I was ready but missed all the fun. I've really tried to keep alittle bit of that playfulness amix all the chaos of busy schedules and reality of homework. Their 1st day back at school I welcomed them home to a little after school party of treats and Tri-ominios, a fun game Mckay got for Christmas. As mentioned earlier, I am really enjoying the fact that my older kids are now big enough to play games that I really enjoy and not just play, just to be a nice mom and spend time with them. Perhaps it's okay to let my babies grow up and enjoy this next stage in life.
